A member count only the admins see
Something the whole group looks at
Four thousand members is a number in a settings panel. The same four thousand as places on a map is a picture people screenshot, argue about and send to the friend they have been meaning to drag in.
A “where is everyone from?” thread
Everyone, without being asked
Every community runs that thread, and twelve people answer it. Opening a link is not an introduction somebody has to be brave enough to write, so the ones who never post are on this map too — which is most of them.
A link that tells a newcomer nothing
Proof the place is alive
Somebody deciding whether to join is deciding whether anyone is actually here. Thirty countries already lit answers that before they have read a word, and a dead server cannot fake it.
What goes on it
Pin a link to the place it belongs to and it is painted there, named, and opens with a tap. Everything that belongs nowhere in particular sits under the map, where it always has.
The next meetup
Pinned to the city it is in. People scanning the map find the one near them instead of scrolling a list of twelve cities.
A chapter that runs itself
Wherever enough of you turned out to be. The map is how those start: four people in one city is invisible in a member list and obvious here.
The chat, the forum, the server
No country on this one. It is everywhere, it sits under the map, and it is where somebody goes once the map has convinced them.
The thing you are all building
The repo, the zine, the fundraiser, the league table. Whatever the group is for, with the people it is for drawn underneath it.
Where there are enough of you to meet
A member list tells you how many you have. It does not tell you that eleven of them are in Lisbon, which is the one fact that decides whether there is a chapter there — and the reason the second city is always a guess. Every open is a place, counted, so the next meetup goes where the people already are.

Your group has never seen itself.
Post one link and find out where everyone has been this whole time. It takes a minute, and the map starts with the first person who opens it.
