How to make a link in bio with a map

One page, one link, and a world map that shows where you have been and where the people reading it are. This is what it does, who it suits, and every setting you will meet when you make one. It takes about five minutes.

What it is

A link in bio page, with a map instead of a list

You get one link on Instagram or TikTok. Most people point it at a list of buttons. This is that page, with a world map above the buttons.

The map does three things at once:

  • It shows where you have been. You colour in the countries yourself, before you share it with anybody. That half is full on day one.
  • It fills in as people open it. Every view lands on the map as a dot, with the city it came from.
  • It holds your links. Pin a guide to the country it is about and it sits there, named, and opens when somebody taps it.

Your links also appear as ordinary buttons underneath, so nobody has to use the map to find anything.

One page: the countries you coloured in, your guides sitting on them, and a dot for everyone who has opened it.

Who it is for

People who sell something tied to a place

Travel creators, mostly. If you sell guides, itineraries, presets, packing lists or trip planning calls, the map does two jobs a list cannot.

It proves you have been there. Forty coloured countries is evidence. A list of twelve links is twelve links.

It sorts your links by place. Somebody who just watched your Peru video can find the Peru guide by looking at South America, which is faster than reading every label.

It suits you less if nothing you sell is about a place. A map of where your audience is still works, but you would be paying for half the product.

Step by step

Making one

Sign up, then press Create. Choose the link-in-bio kind, not the poll. Everything below is on that one screen, and the preview beside it updates as you type.

  1. 01

Name it and pick its address

The title is for you, in your dashboard. The address is the part people see: mappbook.com/yourname.

It has to be 3 to 30 characters, lower case letters, numbers and hyphens, and it cannot start or end with a hyphen. Some names are kept back so nobody can pretend to be us.

Choose carefully. Changing it later is a Pro feature, and an old address is never given to anybody else — it may already be printed in somebody’s bio.

  2. 02

    Add your profile

A picture, your name, and a line about what you do. Add your social handles and they appear as icons under your name.

All of it is optional. A page with none of it still works.

  3. 03

    Add your links

    Each link has:

    • a name — up to 80 characters
    • the address it opens
    • a line underneath, if it needs one — what it is, what it costs
    • a picture, beside the name or across the top of the card
    • a country, if it is about one — that is what puts it on the map

One country holds one link. Drag the rows to reorder them; that is the order they appear in under the map.

A free page carries two links. Pro carries 20.

  4. 04

    Colour in your map

Open My map. You get two lists, and you decide what they mean. They start as “Been” and “Want to go” — rename either one to anything you like, up to 24 characters.

Pick a colour for each from the six swatches, then add countries from the dropdown. There is no limit. The key at the top of your map shows each name with a count beside it.

You can also set Currently in, which draws a travelling dashed outline round one country. Only countries already on your map are offered, and you can leave it off.

    Currently in

Outlined on the map, whatever colour it is. Leave it off if you would rather not say where you are.

The real control, and the real map. Add a country and it lands; the key counts it. Nothing here is saved.
  5. 05

    Choose how it looks

Under Style, start from a preset or set the background, text and button colours yourself. The map keeps its own colours either way — they mean something, so they are not yours to change.

  6. 06

    Decide what visitors can see

Under Privacy you can hide the map. Your links still work; the page becomes an ordinary list.

With the map hidden, pinning a link to a country does nothing, because there is nothing to pin it to.

  7. 07

Save it and put it in your bio

That is the whole thing. Paste the address into Instagram, TikTok or anywhere else. When you paste it into a message or a post, the preview that unfurls is your actual map, not a logo.

What happens next

What you get once people start opening it

A dot for every view, on the city it came from. Zoom in and the dots grow into strips with the city name and how many views came from it. A city needs at least 3 views before it is named, so one visitor is never identifiable from your map.

Every view lands as a dot on the city it came from. Zoom in and the busier ones grow into their names.

Country names appear as you zoom. At the opening view the map is colours and marks, which keeps it readable; zoom in and the names arrive.

Clicks, broken down by country. Not just how many people clicked a link, but where from — per link, not per page.

A live count of views, how many are reading right now, and how many countries you have reached.
